Zabava ONLY tickets are $10 each and may be purchased during Festival hours (11 am-7 pm) Saturday June 7, 2014 or at the door after 8 pm. Tickets are on a first come first serve basis.

What is a “zabava”?

za-ba-va noun- 1. Party

A Zabava is a high energy party where the drinks flow as passionately as the music and dance. Traditional social dances such as the butterfly, polka & schottische will definitely be played… but this is not just for Baba!

Around 10:30pm you will witness (or maybe even dance in) the Canadian-Ukrainian tradition of the “Kolomeyka”. Kolo (means circle) and you will know it is time as the dance floor clears and the Kolomeyka music begins… slowly, at first. The participants will ready themselves on the sides and those who know what they are about to see pick their favourite Kolomeyka vantage point. It is a dance off like no other. The music encourages the dance and as the tempo increases boys leap, girls twirl, acrobatics and tricks are performed as each dancer shows their true spirit and love of dance. The music keeps going as long as the dancers keep showing and if it stops before the dancers are ready; listen for the chant to start the band playing again.

A Zabava is a party like no other and will put the icing on an already awesome day of Ukrainian Cultural experiences… be advised tickets do sell fast.
